Mercy Sunday: Family Promise & Families First of MN “Crisis Nursery”

We continue to explore what the Eucharistic Revival looks like here at the Co-Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, during Lent, to pray, reflect, and act on how we live out “being sent” from the Eucharist to be and reveal Christ to others.

Mercy Sundays are opportunities for St. John’s to highlight social ministries in which we already participate and invite you to be involved as bearers of Christ, the “good news”.

We at the Co-Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist express ourselves as “A Welcoming Catholic community” through greeting in time and space, through the corporal works of mercy, hospitality, and relationships of caring. From the Eucharist we come, enlivened by the Spirit, upholding life and life choices.

Family Promise Rochester—Family housing is a great gift, a gift of compassion and stability. But it is a gift that is frequently “out of reach” for families because of a “perfect storm” of factors. Family shelter and transitional housing is a premium, as are affordable/available housing options in the Rochester area. This is where Family Promise Rochester becomes, with our support, a matrix of the compassionate stability—fostering housing needed by so many families for years to come. Can you imagine being on a “waiting list” for shelter for your children?

In 2024, Family Promise is working on their new, expanded space. With your help, our faith community could welcome families into this new space by sponsoring a shelter bedroom or a whole apartment! Contributions can be made through the Co-Cathedral of St. Johns for “Family Promise Rochester”. Please reach out to Erin at esinnwell@fprochestermn.org with questions.

FAMILIES FIRST OF MN “Crisis Nursery” is a child abuse prevention and family support program of temporary short-term care for children in Olmsted County while families address a crisis situation. Your donation can help provide a safe place for a child, or you can donate items such as diapers (4,5,6), pull-ups (3T/4T, 4T/5T), and wipes (send to 126 Woodlake Dr SE). There is also an online registry for needed items at www.familiesfirstmn.org/services/crisis-nursery/wish-list/.
