An Invitation to a Place
In this week's Witness of Belonging, parishioner Tony Miller shares his experience of belonging to the movement of Communion and Liberation, which is a Charism within the Church. You are invited to "come and see" our School of Community on Monday nights from 6:00pm-7:00pm. Sometimes we meet at the Co-Cathedral and other times our meeting includes a meal at people's homes. Contact Sebastian (smodarelli@sj.org) to be notified of future meeting locations.
A School of Community Gathering in Rochester, MN
School of Community is first and foremost a place, a physical place that is made up of people who take their desire to become familiar with Christ seriously in their daily lives. These people have become my friends who I share my life with, who share their life with me. In my experience it is a place that helps me unpack, recognize, and verify my encounter with Christ. It helps me verify that Christ is real and that He exists in my circumstances. He exists in front of my relationship with my wife, daughter, family, co-workers, difficulties, joys, disappointments. It is a place where I am able to ask the deepest questions about my life and find out the truth within all of my experiences. It is a place that helps me make sense of my life through the method of examining and judging the truth in these experiences.
I have been able to grow and learn how to listen to my heart and begin to understand how to judge what Christ truly has in store for my life, my destiny. When my dad became sick and passed away at too young of an age, my friends helped me see how to stay with this painful experience and help me make a judgment in front of this. I have been participating in the School of Community for the last twenty-five years because it is a place where my desire for truth, beauty, justice, love, freedom, are awakened by belonging to Christ in this particular way. I have recognized that Christ awakens in me these desires and this is attractive, this is something that is for my life. It is a reality that I can meet and that has a face.
The greatest event in one's life is to come continuously face to face with Christ who generates us every moment. He calls us all in many different ways of encounter and School of Community is one of those particular places that Christ has called me.
