Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLW) is offered during the Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter seasons at 9:30am Sunday Mass.

Please consider if you are called to help lead or assist with CLW this season! It's a beautiful way to listen to God's Word in a deeper, more profound way with the children of our parish. Training and lesson plans are provided for you. Contact Laura to volunteer.

  • It is a time during Mass when young children process from the church into the chapel together with adult leaders. Once there, they

    • reflect together on the signs, symbols, and colors they see at Mass

    • read a child-friendly version of the scripture readings for the day and discuss their meaning

    • offer prayers to God in a way that invites the children's participation.

    The children return to the church at the Presentation of the Gifts, just before the Liturgy of the Eucharist, and find their places back with their parents.

  • We recommend it for children ages three and older. We also suggest that children who will receive Communion should remain in the church with their family to fully experience the Mass. Parents or older siblings are welcome to accompany young children to CLW but it is not required.

  • Adult volunteers from the parish who have completed Safe Environment training lead the children in reflection and discussion. Older children (grades 4 and up) sometimes help to proclaim the readings from the Children's Lectionary.

    We need more volunteers! Each week, those who have signed up will receive a lesson plan, including the readings for that week and suggested discussion questions and symbols to focus on. Contact Laura for more information on volunteering, including the online VIRTUS training.

  • No registration is needed! When you see the sign in the Gathering Space for Children's Liturgy of the Word, you'll know that after the Collect prayer, Father will invite children to process to the chapel. Your family can decide if your children want to participate each week.

  • Join our Children's Liturgy of the Word group on Flocknote. Each week, you will receive a message summarizing what the children discussed at CLW and some simple suggestions for continuing to pray throughout the week.
