Just Faith !

JustFaith is a small faith-based community which has taken nine months of prayer, study, dialogue, immersion, reflection and action around the topic of justice as it relates to the compassionate mercy of our loving God and the people and planet with which we live.

Our time together has been one of soul searching, questioning, analysis of issues related to global and domestic poverty, racism, life-style choices, non-violence individually and as related to war, spiritual renewal and enrichment, Catholic Social Teaching and finally discernment of future actions as individuals and as a group. Our journey has been one with times of energy, times of discouragement, times of difficult but thoughtful dialogue, and times of recognition of the need for our response to the call of our compassionate God. We are continually open to the power of transformation from the presence of the Holy Spirit.

We have reflected much on Scripture with the call of God through the prophets and Jesus examples and teachings of justice in relationships. We have reflected on many examples of personal witness and faith response to the signs of our times; Dorothy Day, Oscar Romero, Mother Teresa, Dom Helder Camera, Martin Luther King Jr., St.Francis of Assisi, Clarence Jordan, Pedro Arrupe, Henri Nouwen, Marin Neimoeller, Gandhi, and people from our own local community. We have been touched by the personal witness and presence, of people we know, to the poor and vulnerable among us. We have been open to the Spirit and the transformational power of presence, in the Spirit, to others.

We have spent many hours on the interplay of faith, hope, love, patience, persistence, prayer and action in response to God's love for our broken world. We are each at a different place in the journey and continue to pursue our mission as followers of Christ with renewed passion and direction, in the power of the Holy Spirit.

"Come to the Table of Plenty"

An Economy of Global Stewardship

What is on our table? What is on the table of most of the world's people?
How did it get there? Our local Farmer's Market is open Saturdays on 4th St near the Government Center. This includes: Community Sustained Agriculture options, good, sustainably produced, locally grown and marketed foods and products, some organic - no toxic pesticides and herbicides, most are small farming operations, relationships with growers/producers of our food, reduces environmental impact of long distance food transportation and intensive factory food production.

National Catholic Rural Life Conference says, "Eating is a Moral Issue".
Food is related to justice for all because of the impact of agribusiness and factory farming on producers/farmers, local communities, farm workers, and those who buy and eat. We must consider the resources used in production and distribution, the equity of distribution - obesity in one "world"; hunger in others, the environmental health and sustainability - excessive production; use of chemicals/herbicides/pesticides; damage to soil, water, species, food chain, people; loss of local control of food; corporate control of food, water, land, workers, and resources. To paraphrase St. Francis of Assisi, "Praise God, Sister, Mother Earth!"

Mary Vlazny

O God, to those who have hunger give bread; and to us who have bread give the hunger for justice.
