Lenten Lessons from the Desert

Lent Event with Father Thomas Benedict Baxter – March 14, 15 and 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. Fr. Thomas-Benedict, OSB, a monk of the Benedictine Monastery of Christ in the Desert, Abiquiu, NM will preach at the weekend Eucharistic Liturgies and then lead a series of evening reflections on the meaning of the Lenten journey as we prepare to walk the road to Jerusalem with Jesus. Desert wisdom can help us to see more clearly what this path can be for us as individuals and as a community of faith. Who are we who walk out of the desert with Christ and what does it mean to join Him in Jerusalem?

St. John’s Reads “Caritas in Veritate”(Charity in Truth) three sessions Thurs. evenings Feb. 25, March 11 and 25 at 6:30- 7:30 p.m. at St. John’s Fellowship Area. This is the most recent encyclical by Pope Benedict XVI (June 29, 2009) which addresses the social themes vital to the well-being of humanity and reminds us that authentic renewal of both individuals and society requires living by Christ's truth in love.

Anointing Mass

In this sacrament a priest anoints the sick with blessed oil to give strength, hope and healing. A new illness, fragileness or a worsening of health enables a person to receive this beautiful sacrament.

On Friday, April 2, 3:45 p.m. at the Government Center. Procession leaves at 4:00 p.m. and arrives at St. John’s at 5:30 p.m. for Good Friday Service.
